Today’s Final Jeopardy – July 7, 2023 Full Episode

Warning: This page contains spoilers for the July 6, 2023, game of Jeopardy! — please do not scroll down if you wish to avoid being spoiled. Please note that the game airs as early as noon Eastern in some U.S. television markets.

Today’s Jeopardy! contestants:

Carol Oppenheim, a retired computer programmer from Owings Mills, Maryland
Alex Gordon, a medical student from Somers, New York
Anji Nyquist, a social media coordinator from Minneapolis, Minnesota (1-day total: $8,800)

Andy’s Pregame Thoughts:

Anji Nyquist is your defending champion today after she picked up $8,800 in a come-from-behind victory after being the only player to get the game’s final clue correct. Today, your challengers are retired computer programmer Carol Oppenheim and medical student Alex Gordon.

I’ve noticed this week that most articles about the recent hosting change on Jeopardy! have been published by news outlets whose editorial leanings would be described as “anti-union.” It would do readers well to remember that Mayim Bialik is not hosting these games this month in an act of union solidarity, and the “celebrations” of fans are certainly being noticed by those of us with pro-union sensibilities.

In social media news, Instagram’s Twitter-like app Threads was released last night. I have joined with the user name thejeopardyfan; however, some features are currently lacking in Threads: the lack of a desktop version and an inability to find others’ posts easily—either other users I have followed or on a certain topic. I am hopeful that Meta will quickly add both of these features; if they do, I believe Threads will quickly become the Twitter replacement everybody hopes for.

Richard Adams’s 1972 work Watership Down was originally a story told to his two daughters, then six and eight years old in the mid-’60s; the family was on a car trip from London to Stratford-upon-Avon, and the daughters were begging for a story, according to a 2018 article from The Guardian released to coincide with the 2018 Netflix series. Relenting, Adams started, “Once upon a time there were two rabbits called Hazel and Fiver…” and the famous work was born. Many readers, though, felt for certain that the work was an allegory of communism and/or Christianity; however, Adams’ daughters have always insisted that Watership Down is “just a story about rabbits.”
